Sofa has always offered its volunteers a real work experience in a friendly environment where you can develop, if you want to, your skills in office administration, customer service, warehousing, van delivery, upcycling or housekeeping. There may also be opportunities to undertake accredited training including NVQs and ILMs and Microsoft office accredited certificates which some include VBA.
However, increasingly our volunteers now include a number of energetic after employment individuals who enjoy the varied roles available at the charity to keep them active, involved and productive as well as having good company.
As the younger generation challenge us all to take action to resolve the climate crisis we hope that they also will be willing to come along and volunteer at Sofa as the charity's dedication to reuse provides a serious pathway to reducing the devouring of our earth resources and energy. Unfortunately due to the nature of our work and our building volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years.
What are we looking for?
A positive and friendly attitude and a willingness to work in a cooperative manner is essential. Previous experience and qualifications are not required but we can make use of them if you have them. All volunteers must be able to manage their own responsibilities and work under their own initiative. Volunteers cannot be guaranteed to be supervised at all times. They must also be able to work as part of a team and possess the communication skills necessary to deal with members of the general public. We ask all volunteers to be reliable and committed to the charity's aims.
